This cow made me laugh...its head was under a tree keeping dry but the rest of it was out in the rain.
Greg went out in the woods to get a picture of the owls but missed!!
Tuesday dawned lovely and sunny...we set off only to come under fire from a squirrel in a tree who was throwing away the acorns it didn't want- several landed on top of the boat!
Woodland Lock is one of my favourite locks...
Although thank goodness that the naturist from 'Idly Dan', just below the lock wasn't up...last time we came past him I didn't know where to look.
Luckily there was a volunteer lock keeper on at all the locks coming through Fradley so we soon found ourselves on the Alrewas river which was so clear you could see the fish swimming.
This house is at the entrance to Barton Turn marina.
There were lots of Lammas here which were used for Lamma trekking, I don't know how comfortable it would be though.
And then we finally arrived at Burton upon Trent...Greg's nose went up in the air as he could smell the beer brewing ...so of course he had to nip up to the Marston Brewery Shop for some 'Old Empire'.
Heading out of Burton was Dallow Lane Lock. Some one had done some fantastic paintings on the wall which had been covered up with plastic sheets.
This poor black swan was swimming along all by itself. The last time we saw one was in Reading on the River Thames.
We moored just past this aqua duct for the night. Unfortunately the A38 was the other side!
I remember the first time we came this way...It was our first big trip out and Stenson lock seemed enormous, the lock keeper stayed to show us how to operate a double lock as we'd never done one before.
Can you believe it -another boat called Freedom?
Heading towards Shardlow there were lots of boats out. I think everyone was taking advantage of the nice weather.
There were so many DHL planes coming out of East Midlands airport I lost count.
OH yes and another one.......
Shardlow village was really busy. There are 7 nice pubs and resturants in the village and plenty of porsche's as well.
All the old warehouses had been done up into houses and appartments.
Talk about an odd shaped duck house.
Bridge number 1 on the Trent and Mersey.....We 've come all the way along it -92 miles from Preston Brook to Shardlow.
Shardlow
Preston Brook.
At the beginning of the Trent and Mersey...
And the end.
Tomorrow we go through the next lock which will take us onto the Derwent Mouth before heading down the River Soar towards Leicester and Foxton Locks.
Happy days.
