Derwent Mouth

We went through Derwent Mouth Lock  leaving the Trent and Mersey canal behind. It looks huge when you first go onto it and I thought it would be safer to put Scully downstairs just in case she decided to go splash again.

This poor boat is at its wits end!

Sawley Lock is electric and operated by the lock keepers. Just at the side of it was a micro brewery which sadly (for Greg anyway) was closed.

Just before you go onto the River Soar you go past the entrance to the Erewash Canal. One day we will have to go and have a look up there.

This dog was made out of wellingtons ..it looked fantastic.

You can still see the old power station in the background although not a lot is happening at it any more.

Greg rather liked the look of this old mill hidden behind the trees.

We moored up for the night at Sutton Bonington as we had problems with the gearbox. As we were going into the last lock we lost all the drive. Around the prop was a load of plastic and rope , unfortunately the gearbox emptied itself of oil!! Greg went cycling of to a nearby garage to get some more oil which temporarily sorted it out . We decided to go into the Rose and Crown for a drink and had a lovely evening with some of the more colourful locals!

We set off early as we didn't know wether to turn round and come back or carry on going. In the end we decided to carry on.

Some of the weirs are enormous.

We headed through Loughbourgh past the old mills.

This foal has such long legs!!

'Just waiting for my dinner'.

We moored up by Watermead country Park where one of the lakes is named after King Lear. We've heard thunder and seen a couple of flashes of lightning in the distance , hopefully it won't be too noisy a night tonight!
Happy days.
