Last nights sunset where we moored.
We set off on a beautiful warm sunny day heading towards Wheelock. We had a few locks to do but the locks are all in pairs up here so we had a nice easy run down.
There were hundreds of geese raiding this field, some of them had made themselves quite at home .
At Wheelock Services I got quite excited -I thought I'd found a cheese shop!! Unfortunately it was the village pub and it wasn't open so we filled up with water and carried on chugging.
I think it was a day for birds today..this buzzard was perched on the corner of a barn.
Under the M6 bridge was a swallows nest with lots of young in all waiting hungrily for their next feed. I missed the nest but got a snap of this little fella sitting on the side.
While I was waiting at the next lock I saw something brown on the bales of silage. At first I thought they were rats ( you know what my eyes are like!) I got the camera and zoomed in and saw they were 2 baby owls sitting out enjoying the sunshine.
How gorgeous are they? One of them looks like it was looking directly at me even though we were a good distance away. They were so fluffy and cute that I could have stayed looking at them all day but after a while they disappeared between the bales.
I think Trundle cottage is a lovely name for a cottage.
We had a nice lunch out at The Broughton Arms and then carried on through the last few locks. While we were at this lock a couple turned up with a 14 week border collie. She was so good and had a fuss and sat when she was told. The couple were saying they'd had border collies all their lives and had a 6 year old called Miffy. They went to see a friends baby and came back with a pup as the mum had had 9 of them. She had such calm and friendly eyes (not like Scully's, which are always manically looking for something to eat) I did try to hide her away on the boat but it didn't work.
We've moored up by the Red Bull Locks which isn't far from the tunnel . At least its been a warm dry day for a change, hopefully tomorrow will be the same.
Happy days.
