Off towards Chester

I played a crafty one going back through Wrenbury-I sent Greg out to stop the traffic and lift the automatic lift bridge...

And the next one which is a wind up one...Molly thought she was being very clever and ran to the top of the bridge as it was going up.

The wind was bitter as it blew over the fields. We could just about see Baddiley hall.

There are 3 locks at Baddiley..we went through them and decided to moor up for the day. Greg made some gorgeous bread.

Saturday started off bright and sunny.. we set off early towards Hurleston Locks- everyone else had the same idea and there were lots off boats coming out of Swanley Bridge Marina for the weekend.

We were lucky-there was a boat coming up in each lock as we were going down. At the bottom I was talking to a guy that was going to have to reverse up the locks.....he had tried going in forwards but had got jammed so CRT had advised him to try going in backwards. He had his boat booked in to be painted at Swanley Marina the next day!!

The hills in the distance....

Back out on the Shropshire Union again.

Someone had built a small observatory at the end of their garden.

We thought this could be a new name for our boat.

Past Barbridge Junction where a steady stream of boats were coming out.

There are big industrial units going up at Wardle Farm as far as you can see.

The planes were really low overhead.

At Bunbury Wharf are 2 double staircase locks, luckily there were 3 lock keepers on. We went through with another boat and Greg got talking to the bloke about good places to moor and places to visit in Chester.

They were still chatting when we got to the next lock while me and Emma( his girlfriend) did the lock.

There were so many rabbit holes here it reminded me of Watership Down.

Coming up towards Beeston Castle.

The railway track that goes from Crewe to Holyhead.

At first I thought that the tree had fallen all the way across the canal.. Its a good job Greg didn't have his chainsaw!

Beeston Castle in the distance.

Wharton's Lock where the lock keepers cottage was destroyed by a stray German bomb during the second world war.

Peckforton Castle which is now used mainly for weddings and corporate events

We decided to stop at the Shady Oak for a birthday drink and meal which was lovely.

                                                Happy Days
