Up the Oxford

A few pictures from yesterday.

We left the Thames and started to head back up the Oxford...it was a beautiful day.

A watering hole for the horses by Duke's cut lock.

We moored up for an hour in the afternoon so Greg could have a look to see if there was anywhere he could do some metal detecting. A hire boat came past so quickly that he pulled the mooring pins out of the boat behind us, while I was trying to tie it back up another boat came racing past swerving from side to side pulling out the pins again and nearly pulling the pins out of our boat as well. They thought it was really funny.

They didn't find it quite so funny when we saw them at the next lock- its well known for not filling all the way up and you have to give it a good hefty push to get it open. They went up and down twice trying to get out of the lock...finally with an audience of 4 hireboats at the top, they emptied the lock and reversed out. Everybody got out of their boats and were discussing what they were going to do....

Eventually the 10 fellas on the last boat decided that if they all worked together they would be able to get the boats through. It was better than watching an episode of Eastenders !
Happy days.
