We set off at 7 as it was a bit cooler, planning to have an early finish.
Then we met Tony.......who had never done a lock before and needed a bit of help.
You don't feel these things land...but you certainly feel them bite!!!!
The miniature suspension bridge at Stowel Park.
Ladies Bridge.
Picked Hill.
The famous white horse in the distance.
We saw this pub at lunchtime and pulled over-I just fancied an ice cold lemon and lime, only to find it was shut on Mondays....
This morning was a really early start- Greg woke me at 6 as we had agreed to set off early as we had 30 locks to do.....even though I grumbled(just a bit!) it was lovely and fresh.
We arrived at Devizes at about 8.45 and met another couple Chris and Helga on board Stray away who were waiting to go down Caen Hill Locks as well.
All the locks have signs on them saying who had paid to have that lock restored..We soon got ourselves into a routine taking turns to open the locks ..it was going brilliantly until disaster stuck- I looked down the side of the boat to line it up to put it in the lock and saw 2 eyes looking at me...I swear it was a rat at the front of the boat on the gunnels ...Greg says it was a water vole. Whatever it was I was not staying on the boat with it....Even the lock keepers thought it funny to see me dancing and jumping around. Luckily Greg managed to evict it because there was no way I was staying on the boat tonight with him on board.
Looking back up the flight- do we really have to go back up there to get home?
We moored up by the "The three magpies" . We re going to have an easy day tomorrow, find a quiet spot and moor up for the day and find a nice big tree for Scully to lie under.
Happy days.
