This is an extra long blog today as for the past few days we have struggled to get internet. You can just about see the roof of Wotten Manor from the canal.
Over the small aqua duct at Wotten Wawen- there's a sign on the bridge below warning about the height as several lorries have bumped into it.
Then the big one at Edstone....
Hiding in the bushes was a muntjac deer, we finally managed to get a picture of it before it disappeared.
AAAAAHH Isn't he cute..
We had a lock free run for a while until we got to Wilmecote where there were 11-and not another boat in sight until we got to the last 3!
When we arrived at Stratford there was only 1 other boat in the basin. We moored up just in front of the statue of William Shakespeare. We headed into town and had a look around the shops and then decided to take Scully for a run around the park.
Cox's Yard.
While we were taking Scully for a walk around the park we saw something happening in Holy Trinity church yard.......It looked like someone was being attacked!!
We found out it was a film crew who were recording a new drama set in Stratford and ex Eastenders actress Jo Joyner and Mark Benton, all about 2 private investigators.
Hamlet was sitting just outside our boat!
It was very blowy when we left the next day and there were lots of people around watching as we tried to get away from our mooring.
This family of swans were walking up the towpath as if they owned the place.
Back over the aquaduct and the wind was blowing a gale...we were up in the tree tops ...I held on for dear life as the boat bounced from side to side.
28 locks later.......
I did get distracted for half an hour by a 14 week old border collie puppy called Poppy ..she was adorable.
I must admit I slept like a log after all the locks...my bones were aching and there were 8 more locks to go until we were off the Stratford Canal. Outside the window though was this lovely woodpecker( yes Ems I finally got a picture of one for you)
The end of the Stratford before going back onto the Grand Union.
We moored up near Rowington before the very wet Shrewley tunnel as Hatton Locks were not far away and we decided we'd have an early start.
As it happened we didn't get away very early...In fact it was nearly 11 before we set off.
The water was pouring into the tunnel today. We went past 2 old boats which Greg thought would make a good 'project'.........
At the top of the tunnel is a small tunnel which the horses used to go through.
Hatton Locks here we come.....We went through the first 4 and then managed to catch up with a boat that had already started going down before us....he was on his own so between the 3 of us it was a bit easier(until Scully tried to eat his stick of celery-she doesn't even like it!!)
The old Hatton Hospital-which are now flats.
By the time we got to the bottom me and the dog were worn out....It was time to moor up at 'The Cape' pub for a nice meal and drink...Scully had her dinner, flopped down on her bed and fell asleep!
