Up the Macclesfield canal.

We set off towards Harecastle Tunnel about 9ish but had to wait until about 10.45 before we could go through as they only let so many boats through at a time. In the end we were the first of 5 boats to go through.

The cottage at the top must have had fantastic views at one time....

The water is really orange when you come out the other end and there was a queue waiting to come through.

We turned left and started to head up the Macclesfield Canal.

We went over a viaduct which went over the Trent and Mersey.

Hall Green stop lock.

We soon saw the Snooty Fox moored up who we came through several locks with earlier( they'd got stuck at Hawksbury). He came out to wish a good journey and to say that they had got back safely. Their cottage used to be the stables where the horses rested on the way up the canal.

All of the bridges are narrow at the bottom and bulge out at the top.

There were teapots of every size and colour hanging up at Teapot Hall.

The metal railings were put up round the fields so it didn't interrupt the view of the owners of Ramsdell Hall, who had been promised that the canal would pass behind their house but the plans were changed at the last minute.

Someone forgot to take in the old plough.

The old bridges enabled the horse to cross from one side of the towpath to the other without being unharnessed.

The viaduct over Canal road.

We stopped at the Queens Head in Congleton for a quick drink before carrying on.

The poor farmer was trying to shoo the cows along off the bridge but this one was having none of it!

You can see for miles.

The view from the side window once we'd moored up.
Happy days.
