Harecastle Tunnel

We arrived at Harecastle Tunnel at just gone 9. The guy from canal and riverside trust at the end of the tunnel was brilliant...although I will admit to feeling a little nervous when he gave us an air horn (in case of any problems) and said he would shut the doors behind us and put the fans on....I had visions of us shooting through the tunnel like a pea coming out of a pea shooter!
It took about 45 minutes to get through although Scully was not to happy to be shut downstairs.

When we came out the other end the water was Orange, and it stayed that colour for quite a way. The countryside we passed through was fantastic and the sunshine made it a perfect day. We sat nearby this church and had a picnic...
We went through quite a few locks and found out that the old boaters used to call them 'Heartbreak hill'

After mooring up early to chill out and enjoy the lovely weather, Greg decided to get himself a towel and lie out on the towpath , relaxing......He came in to get a drink only to find Scully had settled herself down for a snooze....
Happy days!!!!
(for some anyway)
